Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months left on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the WSL team.
Departure from Munich was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional business:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
