The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Selected the Wrong Popular RPG Show Track
The Mighty Nein, the newest animated series by Critical Role, revealed an exciting opening credits. It features our favorite cast of misfits, outcasts, and criminals fighting hard and taking names, while teasing at multiple heart-wrenching backstories for key figures such as Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.
All in all, the opening looks stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was missing in the music selection.
This sequence employs "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song created by producer and singer the talented musician. It's a track originating from the official score of the same name, the second release released by the production company's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful sentimental option, and I believe that fans of the sequel series will love its presence.
But for me, The series' opening fails to capture the excitement and excitement that was part of the show's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", composed by musician the artist, was an instant classic for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when cast member the performer wrote words to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.
Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the song was memorable and fun. At the time, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series yet, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my phone. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you start an episode of fantasy hijinks.
The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" fails to hit the right notes in my opinion. It's a grand piece of music, but based on my understanding of the group, I can't help but feel that its tone is a little off.
Of course, the creators has stated that the animated show will have a few changes and differences from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its opening seems to be one of them.
This animated adventure will be released on the streaming service from Nov. 19. If you can't wait before that, or wish to prepare to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are accessible on Spotify and the video site.
