The Two Fatalities Identified in Brown University Attack as Police Persist in Hunt for Perpetrator.

Two students who died in the weekend's tragic incident in Providence were being remembered Monday – as a manhunt for their killer persisted following the discharge by Rhode Island officials of the single suspect of interest in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

The student Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was remembered as “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, as stated by the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which offered condolences for her at a service on Sunday.

She served as second-in-command of Brown’s chapter of the College Republicans organization, as the club stated. The White House press secretary also shared sympathies publicly, saying in part: “It's indescribable. Thinking of her family and friends, particularly her mother and father.”

An International Student

The other deceased individual was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his initial year at the prestigious university, family members said.

Umurzokov’s identity was officially acknowledged by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He had big dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon and aiding others,” his sibling Samira said in a tribute.

What Happened

Nine other people were wounded in the weekend shooting in the engineering building of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Law enforcement reported on Sunday evening that a 24-year-man taken into custody in a search at a Hampton Inn about approximately 17 miles from the scene earlier in the day was being released.

“We have a murderer out there,” stated Peter Neronha, Peter Neronha.

He continued, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you have to regroup and pursue a different angle, and that is the current situation over the last day or so.”

Ongoing Concerns

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, admitted: “This will probably generate fresh anxiety for our city”.

The assailant discharged a weapon inside a classroom in the engineering building on Saturday afternoon, discharging in excess of 40 shots from a 9mm pistol, a police source informed the Associated Press.
